Monitoring Land Forms in the Swiss Alps

The Gotthard base tunnel will be the longest rail tunnel in
the world upon its completion. There is a small risk that construction of the tunnel will cause movements in the land above because of water being drained from the rock mass. Above the area of the tunnel are three of the largest dams in Switzerland.
