Environmental Performance

Environmental Data
The environmental data of Leica Geosystems worldwide is collected every two years for the estimation of the total environmental impact of Leica Geosystems.
Use of Energy/Sales (kWh/CHF)
Energy: The relative energy use (to sales) was reduced by 6% from 2001 to 2005. So we have been able to achieve our stated goal of a 1% per annum reduction of our energy consumption. The absolute energy consumption was increased by 2 % (without including the energy use of Leica Instruments Singapore of which 50% used to belong to Leica Geosystems until 2004). The relative reduction was achieved through moving to new facilities where the air-conditioning systems could be optimized.
Use of Water/Sales (m³/CHF)
Water: The water consumption could be reduced relatively by 19%, and absolutely by 12%. This was possible by closing an open water circuit for an environmental simulation process.
 Use of Solvents/Sales (g/CHF)
Use of Solvents: The use of solvents could be reduced by 38%, if calculated in relation to sales. The consumption could be reduced absolutely by 33%. This big reduction is due to the outsourcing of some processes in which a lot of solvents were used.
Comment: This environmental data is not comparable with the environmental data from the last reporting in 2003 since Leica Instruments Singapore is not included anymore in this reporting.
