Our health and safety management systems are integrated into our overall Management System. Each subsidiary of Leica Geosystems has nominated its own health and safety representative since the legal requirements differ from country to country. The representative informs and supports the managers in taking the necessary health and safety measures.
Fortunately, we have a very low accident rate. The last analysis of work-related accidents at Leica Geosystems in Heerbrugg showed that the rate of accidents per 1000 employees per year is approximately 40% lower than the medium accident rate in our industry (Leica Geosystems: 26 accidents, which includes 18 non-work loss incidents). As most accidents occurred on stairs or falls elsewhere on the premises, we initiated a focused campaign specifically to prevent falls. Given that 30% of all accidents involved our apprentices, we initiated an information and awareness campaign during their training.
