Sources of Field Labor Savings

A Professional Surveyor Article on Labor Savings
 
"Let Your Scanner Do the Walking.. and Note-taking!" by Geoff Jacobs was published in the August 2005 edition of the Professional Surveyor Magazine.
"For many years, there was a popular ad for the “Yellow Pages” phone directory that featured the slogan “Let your fingers do the walking.” The idea was that instead of someone walking (or driving) from store to store looking for a particular item, you could thumb through the Yellow Pages and find out exactly where to buy the item or service of interest. The benefits of “letting your fingers do the walking” were time savings and convenience. Today, the Yellow Pages is being rapidly replaced by the Internet, but the benefits argument is the same.

Just like the Yellow Pages, laser scanning can offer similar benefits of time savings and convenience for many topographic, engineering, asbuilt, and detail surveys. This article delves into the root source of these potential field labor savings, a large part of which is “letting the scanner do the walking...”
