PMI used Leica HDS to cut as-built costs by 50%
Precision Measurements Inc. (Virginia) used their Leica HDS scanner for as-built surveys of 500 antennas in Puerto Rico. With HDS, PMI also provided much more detail in the final product and achieved 0.01' accuracies. Feature story in the May 2006 issue of POB magazine, written by POB editor L. Hohner.
       
Highlights in Surveying Award
Leica Geosystems HDS Customer Wins Surveying Award
The winner of the second annual POB "Highlights in Surveying" project contest was announced in the June 2006 issue of Point of Beginning magazine and the winning project featured both Leica HDS scanning and a Leica TCRA 1103+ total station. The project, which covered a 2 year time span, involved surveying a complex new building structure and relied heavily on high-definition surveying. The June issue of POB included both an article about the winning project entitled "Supporting a Dream Design," by Mitchell Wimbush, the leader of the award-winning project for Midwestern Consulting, and a page of editor comments on why this project won the award.

Laser Scanning for Cultural Heritage Applications
The cover article for the March issue of the Professional Surveyor Magazine, "Laser Scanning for Cultural Heritage Applications," was written by John Ristevski and covers two case studies that show how 3D laser scanning is helping to preserve cultural heritage sites. The article also profiles a non-profit organization know as CyArk, which is taking advantage of the new technology to put together an archive and corresponding website of digital records of such historic sites.

The feature article "Performing Classic As-builts with Laser Scanning," from the March issue of the Professional Surveyor Magazine was written by Chris Gray and was taken from a presentation at the Leica Geosystems HDS Worldwide User Conference in November 2005. The article talks about how the Mollenhauer Group utilizes 3D laser scanning to create classic as-builts for a revitalization project in Orange County.
