Measuring Climbing Wall Floorings
Power Plastics are a Yorkshire based manufacturer of covers and tarpaulins; recently they have won several contracts with leisure centres to produce the flooring mats to go beneath climbing walls. Traditional methods of measuring for these mats, often up to 100 metres square but of an irregular shape, proved to be an arduous task. In early November 2003, the first fully automated GradeStar-TPS 3D Dozer control system in Europe was installed at the Hydrex site in West Drayton, UK. The GradeStar machine control system, based on the robotic TPS1100 Total Stations series, was installed on a Komatsu D41 P- 6 dozer together with Leica Geosystems ProControl (the core 1D/2D/3D hydraulic control system). This 3D machine control system enables dozer operators to complete grading work in a shorter amount of time, more efficiently and with greater accuracy. more
Ordnance Survey use GPS in map revision
(Reporter 49, Dec 2003) A massive 42% in productivity gains has been measured by Great Britain’s national mapping agency, Ordnance Survey, following the implementation of Leica GPS surveying systems to undertake their most detailed mapping. GPS was introduced to the field from January 2002 and allowed all Ordnance Survey surveyors to update map data on the spot. more
